Interstellar medium

Space between stars is not completely empty. The interaction between the interstellar matter and the stars is ubiquitous: for example, protostars are born from clouds of gas and dust while dying stars restore their matter to them. The researchers of the GAPHE and OrCA groups study two types of interactions: the shells washed out by the winds of massive stars and the nebulae made of ejected matter from stars of LBV and Wolf-Rayet types. This research makes use of ground-based and space-borne observatories, which operate in a spectral range going from high energy to the infrared.
